And the Warrington winners are…

Thank you all for an amazing opening to the first Python Festival!

The feedback to the exhibition was incredible and highlighted the growing arts scene we have here in Warrington.  With over 50 artworks on display choosing a winner was a difficult task but the winning artist selected was Jane Barwood.  Jane’s beautiful painting jumped out to the judges for its unique way of contrasting imagery that explores the relationship we have with what we perceive as the natural landscape.

Jane says of the winning painting: ‘it is about the fear of not knowing what life will bring but not letting that fear hold us back. It’s about learning from and letting go of the past, embracing challenges and moving forward.’  Jane was presented with £250 plus the unique and exciting prize of a touring exhibition across all four Northern Python galleries in 2014.

Second place went to the stunning painterly work of Jacqui Priestley.  Jacqui is interested in exploring the abstract possibilities of paint, especially those concerned with surface, layering, obfuscation, mark and colour.  The resulting works are large beautiful canvases thick with paint and texture.

The Open is part of a fortnight-long celebration by the Python Galleries and is accompanied by an exciting programme of interactive events, offering new creative opportunities for artists and visitors alike.  The diverse range of artworks will be displayed at the gallery until Tuesday 6th August and as always free to visit!
